Località

In the small coastal reliefs located east of El Perelló (Baix Ebre). From this village you must head for the so-called camí de la Serra, on the other side of the N-340 road; it passes by the municipal waste facility and continues toward the granja de la Serra. Shortly before arriving, on the right, a path branches off that passes between some small country houses, and a little farther on, on the right, there is a turnoff that climbs slightly toward some fields with stone margins; beneath them lies the cavity.

Morfologia

By means of a small drop one enters a gallery with a low ceiling that descends slightly, continuing in this manner for a little more than 20 metres, until reaching a drop where the gallery widens and the ceiling rises a little. From this point two galleries branch off: to the right it continues descending and a few metres farther on it is definitively blocked (elevation -10.7). From the previous point and toward the left, the gallery rises slightly for about 20 metres, until reaching a very narrow stretch and remaining filled by a parietal flowstone. Practically at the start of this gallery, on the right, a small descending conduit of short length branches off, which is the point of maximum depth of the cavity (elevation -11.9).

Concrezioni

The final stretch of the left-hand gallery remains filled by a parietal flowstone.

Altri dettagli

According to its first explorers, the cave could be the remnant of the lower meandering galleries of a former pit dismantled by the erosion of the exterior relief.

We do not know whether it is still used today for throwing dead animals, as the members of the SIE were able to verify in the 1983 exploration.

It should be noted that the first survey (GES, 1954) assigns it a length of 110 metres, whereas in the second (SIE, 1983) it is reduced to 75 metres.

Storia

In June 1954, during a campaign in the Serra del Boix, members of the GES-CMB are informed of the existence of this cavity, exploring and surveying it.

We have no further news of it until 1983, when members of the SIE carry out an exhaustive review of all the cavities in the El Perelló area, many of them known and others previously unrecorded.
