Caratteristiche

Località

About 1500 m ENE of Malanyeu, next to a track that passes near the cingle de la Cabrota. From Malanyeu we take the track that in about a kilometre passes by the masia del Llomà. Half a kilometre further on the track forks, we continue to the right uphill. This track, only recommendable for 4×4 vehicles, makes a few bends and when we have gone about a kilometre along it we will already see the cave mouth on the right. On our left we observe the cingle de la Cabrota.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The mouth, triangular in shape, is 4 m high by 2.5 m wide and has been affected by the opening of the track that passes just in front. It gives way to a straight gallery with a Gothic arch section that gradually narrows until it ends at 11 metres. The floor is fairly flat, but stony.

Concrezioni

Worth noting is the heavy concretion on the walls.

Storia

Both on the Editorial Alpina map (Catllaràs-Picancel) and on the ICGC map the toponym “Balma del Doctor Àngel” appears labelled, a cavity that does not appear in any speleological catalogue. Members of the ECMB and GEB, who had already made various trips in the area in recent times, decided to go and locate it on 23-11-2020, but where the maps mark it they found nothing. However, 80 m west of the point marked on the maps they located this cavity, until then unrecorded. In the absence of more information and since it was in fact a cave and not a balma, they decided to name it and catalogue it as Cova del Doctor Àngel. They were unable to find out who this doctor is to whom the cavity is dedicated.
