Caratteristiche

Località

On the eastern slope of the Mola de Colldejou (Baix Camp). Following the T-322 road, from Colldejou to the Torre de Fontaubella, once past km. 17, one reaches the Coll Roig. From here an ascent route to the Mola begins (GR 7-3) that climbs up through the Canal del Batllet and reaches the Portell de la Cova. The ascent path is left to take a small trail that leads to the cave entrance.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The entrance lies within a small rock shelter. A few metres from the entrance there is a hall of clastic origin, where the bedding planes are clearly visible as well as the correspondence between the ceiling of the hall and the blocks on the floor. On the right there is a slightly ascending passage and a one-metre step; at 15 metres of passage the joint becomes impassable.

From the entrance hall and following the main gallery in a NW – SE direction, after a few metres there is a small shaft 7 metres deep and 12 metres further on there is another of similar characteristics, although only 4 metres deep.

Further on the gallery zigzags, due to the crossing of the three joints in this area. Next the gallery narrows considerably until reaching a second entrance of the cave that forms a window hanging in the cliff of the Mola de Colldejou.

Storia

Although known for a very long time, it does not appear mentioned in the old catalogues. The first reference we know of is the one provided by members of the Agrupació Excursionista de Reus who visited it on 4 February 1915. They returned on 12 August of the same year, making a more detailed visit, and one of them, R. Ferraté, made a plan drawing of the cave. At the end of the year a fairly detailed note about the cave was published, signed by S.V.A. (an acronym that seems to correspond to a young Salvador Vilaseca i Anguera, a prestigious physician and prehistorian from Reus).
