Descrizione

Morfologia

Single gallery 8 m long, slightly descending and with the floor full of cobbles. At 4 m from the entrance, on the right, a small current of water normally emerges through a fissure and runs along the final stretch of the gallery, joined by another current that emerges from a jointed gallery, narrow and with a greater flow. Currently, at 3 m from the entrance, there is a small wall about 60 cm high that acts as a dam, apparently so that the water does not flow out towards the torrent and mostly goes to feed the spring underground.

Idrologia

All the water is lost through an impenetrable passage at the lowest point of the main gallery. This small cavity is the overflow of the font Grossa, located a few metres further down and which is one of the points that supply water to the town of Sant Feliu de Pallerols.

Storia

Well known to many residents of Sant Feliu. It is certainly the same cavity that Dr. F. Español visited in 1935 and which he named Cova de la Font Gran. A team from the SIE – CEA visited it in November 1991. A possible digging-out was considered, which was rejected because of the length of the narrow passage and to avoid possible disturbance to the water supply. In August 2021 it was visited by members of the ECM Barcelonès and the GE Badalona, who carried out careful and documented work on the cavity.
