Località

On the road that climbs from la Palma de Cervelló up to the Fontpineda urbanisation, about one hundred metres after a 180º right-hand bend, we find the avenc de Can Montmany on the left-hand wall of the road; one hundred metres further on, on the same side and right next to the road, we find the mouth of the cavity.

Morfologia

Small cave with 47 metres of passage. A 2-metre drop places us in a gallery that initially continues in a NW direction, then turns towards the N and after a few metres recovers the initial direction again and ends a few metres further on. Standing once more at the base of the entrance drop, on the other side one reaches a series of crawls among superimposed blocks.

Storia

The first exploration was carried out in 1958 by members of the then GIE (predecessor of the SIE) of the CE Àliga (Barcelona). The first explorers cited it as Avenc de la Carretera; later, in various publications it appears cited as Cova de la Carretera, very probably influenced by the cavity's own structure and its entrance mouth, opened as a result of the construction of the road; finally it has ended up being better known by the name cova.
