Caratteristiche

Località

At the foot of a crag located in the still wild Sot de l'Infern, a ravine that descends from the N area of the Pla de les Basses, and rises very close to the avenc de la Sivinota.

To make the recommended approach, permission must be requested to access from the rubbish dump enclosure. We must park the cars in its car park and head towards the Biogas plant; once past it and in the direction of the toxic leachate containment pools, we must turn left, towards the stream, along an old track. We cross this over a small bridge and reach a small clearing; from here we must ascend, cross-country, gaining height along the right slope of the barranc de l'Infern. The cavity is quite hidden at the end of the ravine inside a rock shelter.

The approach time is variable, as there is no path and all the terrain is quite overgrown, it can be from two to four hours. On arriving near the rock shelter, one must change slope by descending to the torrent bed and finish the ascent on our right.

Descrizione

Morfologia

We find an elongated visor-like rock shelter; its total width is 17.60 metres and its height reaches 5.50 metres.

Approximately in the middle of it, at 2.50 metres, we will find two entrances; we will enter through the left one, since the right one hangs at 2.60 metres.

The main chamber has a dome-shaped ceiling about 10 metres high; this shaft is connected with another parallel one by two windows. To reach this parallel shaft, we will overcome an r+1.80 by an ascending flowstone that we find in a N direction. We enter a gallery about two metres wide, which ends some four metres further on. We also observe a small chamber hanging from one of the walls, but with no continuation.

Concrezioni

Progressing to the left about three metres, we observe a flowstone that gives onto the main chamber at a higher level. The area through which we entered the sala de la cova Bonica is occupied by a large stalagmite.

Progressione

Progressing to the left about three metres, we observe a flowstone that gives onto the main chamber at a higher level. We continue along a lower gallery one metre high by 0.50 wide, not reflected in the old survey. On our right a small crawlway turns back seeking the entrance mouth.

Returning to the climb of the flowstone, we will overcome an r+0.90; we have now reached the floor of the sala de la cova Bonica, it is a relatively circular chamber, of irregular dimensions ranging from 3.30 to 3.80 metres. On the right, at 1.20 metres, we see the light of the other entrance. It is a narrow passage 1.30 metres wide by 0.25 metres high, through which we exit to the outside, in an opening 1.90 metres high by 1.50 wide. At 1.30 metres we drop down the step (r-2.60 m) already mentioned previously.

Storia

Known since time immemorial and mentioned in all the old catalogues (Madoz; Puig y Larraz; Font i Sagué).

N. Font i Sagué visited it on 19 July 1898 in the preliminaries of his explorations in the barony of Eramprunyà.

Very well known and visited by hikers and local people.

After many years without news of it, Joaquim Guillen (ECG) relocates it and on 31 October 2015 accompanies a large group of speleologists and palaeontologists who update the record sheet of this small cavity.

Note biospeleologiche

Inside it, remains of cercopithecids (monkey macaco) were found and studied.
