Caratteristiche

Località

Located in the area of the Font de la Ginesta, private property, in the lower part of the Coma de l'Alandó district, where there is a spring, the pool and a building. From behind the house a path sets out that climbs the slope of the mountain; on reaching a crossroads, we will keep to the left and shortly arrive at a large hexagonal block whose shape recalls the well-known pastilles Juanola. At its foot there is a metal door where the conduit that collects the water of the Font de la Ginesta is found. Continuing along the path, it will soon lead us to the cave.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The cave is formed by a single chamber 10 metres long by 8 wide, which connects laterally and from above with the outside.

Storia

Explored by the GIE Montblanc in the second half of the sixties. The cave was already known by the name of cova del Calobre, a name given to it by the former owners because of the discovery of bone remains and skulls while they were looking for water in the cave. Likewise, the font de la Ginesta was also known as the font del Xarpa, but when the estate passed into the ownership of the Masdeu family they changed the name of the spring to the current one. Likewise, the members of the GIEM, unaware at that time of the name of the cave, named it cova Baixa, which is how it currently appears in the catalogues.
