Caratteristiche

Località

From the port de Salau you must follow the border ridge of Estats as far as the Tuc de Geu (Pic de Gel, on the ICGC). From there you must follow the ridge that branches off in a W-SW direction and descend almost 200 m of elevation gain. Despite the size of the entrance, it is not easily visible from anywhere and is on a fairly steep slope. GPS and good legs essential.

Descrizione

Morfologia

Large entrance of about 12 x 10 m approximately that gives way to a shaft, with the whole floor completely collapsed by a plug of snow and ice, and which can go down about 20 m approximately.

Progressione

Once at the entrance they had to hammer in a piton, since there was no way to descend without hammering something in, but once inside, Javi found a 'spit' and a very old aluminium Petzl hanger, between the snow and the wall, in a place where it was implausible to have to hammer anything in, since you could not descend where the hanger was, that is to say that perhaps with less snow, there was some shaft there.

Altri dettagli

There is no survey.

Storia

Located by Josep Guarro from the ICGC 1:5000 orthophoto where he clearly sees the large opening. In June 2012, he and Javi Garrido went to take a look. We have reviewed the reports of the French groups that carried out campaigns during the 1970's in all the reliefs of Alt Àneu and we have not been able to find any reference to this cavity. We include this record in case someone one day feels like going, perhaps towards the end of summer, and can find some continuation below the ice. Courage and good luck!
