Caratteristiche

Località

From the C17 road towards Puigcerdà we enter the village of Sant Quirze de Besora at the traffic-light junction. We must cross over the bridge over the river Ter and at the end of the bridge, turn left onto the BV5227 road. We will cross the railway line and continue for about 7 kms., until we reach Santa Maria de Besora. Almost at the end of the straight that crosses the village, we will find on the left the sign indicating "to Ripoll via Llaés". We must take this narrow cemented track which is in good enough condition to be driven with a car. You must be alert as the bends are very tight and we constantly find steep ups and downs. After covering 3.5 kms. we will reach the coll de Beví; before reaching the coll we will find a track on the left, we must follow it, leaving on the left the branches of the Beví Gros and further on that of the Beví Xic; further on the track turns towards the N, on this stretch we will find signs that will lead us to the entrance of the great fissure where the blowholes are found.

The cavity is located opposite blowhole no. 9 of Beví.

Morfologia

A small pit of -3 metres followed by a ramp leads us to a room of 5x6 metres of irregular shape. At the bottom of the room, on the other side of a narrow passage, we reach the maximum depth at -8.5 metres. On the W wall of the room and touching the ceiling there is a small impenetrable opening.

Storia

The first mentions of visits to one of the cavities located inside this great fissure correspond to Dr. Francesc Español, carried out in 1934 for biospeleological purposes.

In 1965 the Grup Espeleològic Terra i Mar (GETIM) of Sabadell explores the avenc dels Tigres; the avenc del TIM, the avenc Besora and the avenc del Vent.

Later the ERE of the CEC between the years 1977 and 1980 carries out a meticulous inventory of the cavities located in this fissure which would be published in the magazine Espeleòleg nº 34-35.

During 1979 the Centre Espeleològic Cervelló carries out the exploration of various cavities of this fissure, with the aim that they be published in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (Borràs-Miñarro-Talavera), this led to giving a new denomination to some cavities.

We, the EspeleoÍndex team, have considered it more appropriate to use the denomination of the cavities made by the members of the ERE-CEC, since it is a more complete joint work. This same line regarding the denomination has been used by Jordi de Valles in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (4).
