Descrizione
Morfologia
The salt del Purgatori is found in a beautiful corner of the riera de la Llavina, forming a semicircular cirque enclosed by crags.
The most interesting thing is that a large rock shelter has formed behind the salt. This rock shelter has a crescent shape, following the contour of the craggy cirque. The route of the little path inside the rock shelter is 59 metres, and it reaches 11 metres at its point of maximum depth.
Idrologia
The water of the stream plunges here forming a totally vertical waterfall 17 metres high, overcoming a limestone stratum. Due to the torrential character of the riera de la Llavina, for much of the year its bed carries no water, but after the rains the water flow can be considerable, to the point of offering a magnificent spectacle of water and noise between the crags and the evergreen vegetation that surrounds the salt.
Near the point where the salt falls there is a good pool of water surrounded by rushes where frogs and other small water creatures live.
Progressione
A little path allows one to go round the rock shelter and pass behind the salt, making a spectacular walk if the stream is running high.
Altri dettagli
Ivy and other shade-loving vegetation grow around it.
Storia
Known since time immemorial.
