Caratteristiche

Località

Follow the LV-5118 road from the C-14 road to Peramola; before reaching it, however, we will turn right in the direction of the Hostal de can Boix. From the main gate of the hostel grounds, to the right, one continues on a track that soon crosses the torrent de la Font Viva, the name given to the upper part of the torrent de Rumbau, and climbs the opposite slope, running along the lower part of the Roc de Rumbau.

On the right, a series of cultivated fields known as l'Artilleria del Roca can be seen. The track maintains a slight climb during this stretch of the route. On the left, the magnificent wall of Rumbau drops sheer for more than 200 metres.

Progressione

Continuing along the path, just on reaching the last cultivated fields, a path begins on the left that, in a steep climb, leads to the rock paintings of the Roc del Rumbau, also known as la Roca dels Moros.

Altri dettagli

Currently (2016), a metal fence protects the painting.

Storia

The first reports about this group of paintings located in a rock shelter were communicated to Mr. L. Díez-Coronel in 1969 by Messrs. F. Riart Jou, M. Bach Porredón and J. Bach Vila, residents of the locality, and he made them known in the journal "Ilerda" two years later.

It is a small group of schematic paintings dated to 6500-3500 before our era. It is one of the first examples of human presence in these parts.

It is declared a Bé Cultural d'Interès Nacional-Zona Arqueològica (BCIN).
