Località

Shortly before Km. 2 of the TV-2126 road that links the urban centres of Bellveí and Calafell, we will turn off onto the old stretch of road that leaves to the left. At this point we will leave the vehicle and continue on foot along the path to the left of the road; this main path, initially uphill, heads towards the East and in a stretch of 150m we will reach the Balma de la Graiera.

Morfologia

The shelter has dimensions of 8m wide and about 7m high on a semicircular plan, where the maximum route under cover is about 3m and others more in the open air that link with a flat platform in front of the shelter.

At present, various archaeological interventions have changed the physiognomy of the ground, both of the shelter and of the platform in front of it.

Storia

The first news of this shelter was provided by Father Martí Grivé, a teacher at the Col·legi Sant Ramon de Penyafort in Vilafranca del Penedès and an enthusiast of prehistoric archaeology, who received from one of his students, Hans Hellmuth, son of one of the engineers of a quarry that was being worked near the shelter, some archaeological materials that led the teacher, in August 1932, to visit the protohistoric site.

The latest interventions have been carried out by members of the SERP (1989-2000).

It is not, however, until August 2020 that Jordi Navarro and Montse Mañosa (Centre Excursionista Castellar) locate it and carry out the documentation work to include it in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (2023).
