Caratteristiche

Località

About 2 km SW of Lluçà, next to the torrent de Sant Joan.

If we come from Vic along the road towards Berga, shortly after passing Prats de Lluçanès the road leading to Lluçà turns off. When we have gone only 300 m along it we must leave it to take a track that turns off to the left and soon passes by the farmhouse of Casanova del Grau. We will continue along the track another 650 m, to leave the car at a junction of paths beside a field.

Descrizione

Morfologia

Rock shelter 53 m long by a maximum depth of 9.5 m, set down in a corner of the torrent, which makes it difficult to see. The floor is relatively flat over much of it. We observe a level of ancient sediments partially eroded, which gives rise to a small step in the western half of the shelter. The ceiling has sections blackened by fire having been made there.

Progressione

Once on foot, we will follow the left-hand fork, along which the GR-1 passes. The path makes a few bends in order to skirt some fields and, descending, gradually approaches the torrent de Sant Joan. When it seems we are almost upon it, we will leave the path, cross the torrent over a small waterfall and see that a not very marked little path begins that goes downstream along its right-hand hydrographic side. This little path will lead us directly to the shelter, very hidden in a corner a short distance from the torrent bed.

Storia

Shelter known to few people, very hidden, for which reason it was used during the civil war by men who took cover there so that they would not be caught and taken to the front. Until not long ago, in the shelter there was a laminated paper with the names of the people of Lluçà who hid there.

The shelter is mentioned in the book “Guerra i repressió a Prats de Lluçanès”, Vol. II, whose authors are Anna Gorchs and Roser Reixach.

The shelter does not appear in any speleological catalogue.
