Caratteristiche

Località

Almost at the western end of the Plana de la Torre, right next to the highest point of this plain, covered by a thick garrigue that makes transit and the locating of cavities very difficult. It can be reached from the hamlet of Aiguaviva del Montmell along a faint path that climbs in a NW direction, and it is also possible from Aiguaviva itself to follow the TV-2443 road towards Can Ferrer de la Cogullada and, before the houses of the Vall de Sant Marc, on the right, a track for off-road vehicles starts, leading to Mas Solà, and before reaching it there is a turn-off to the right that would take us to the ruins of the Torre de Milà and continues on to end almost at the upper plain. The vehicle must be left at a point where the track is wider, before starting the last climb that leads to the plain, since there is a fallen pine lying across the track blocking the way (data from February 2017). From the plain at the end of the track we come across some blue paint marks on the trees which, if followed, lead us to the different cavities of the Plana de la Torre.

Approximately a scant hundred metres N of the Avenc dels Pinyerets.

Having checked the coordinates once more on the ground (February 2017), we realise that the cavity lies a few metres inside the municipality of Aiguamúrcia (Alt Camp) and not in that of Montmell (Baix Penedès) as it had been catalogued until now.

Descrizione

Morfologia

Within a small earthen depression is the entrance pit of the cavity, 9 metres of drop, followed by another of 4 metres; at its bottom the general joint runs towards the E and, descending by opposition, one reaches a new pit of about 10 metres. Once at the bottom, a gallery with a high ceiling and about 30 metres in length begins; situated at the bottom of the last vertical is the entrance of the Pou del bloc, 13 metres of drop, of much wider proportions than the previous ones and with a block wedged in the walls halfway along its course. Among the cemented blocks at its bottom is the mouth of the last pit, 16 metres of drop and of more than regular proportions, at the bottom of which a gallery of very irregular course begins, with some narrow places and others with the ceiling at about 15 metres in height; descending some steps by opposition one reaches the point of maximum depth.

Cavity developed along an important fracture of E – W direction.

The surveyed plan length is 150 metres, to which must be added the vertical sections and some small side branches, so that the total length of the cavity should be estimated at 250 metres or a little more.

Concrezioni

On the fracture of E – W direction water infiltrations have acted; if not as the genetic cause, they have favoured the development of a series of lithogenic processes represented mainly by abundant wall flowstone.

Storia

Discovered by members of the SIE – CEA on 25 May 1969 during the unsuccessful search for the Avenc dels Pinyerets. After a prior digging-out – including a small tree that blocked it – a partial exploration was carried out down to the level of – 25. The following week, 1 to 3 June 1969, the exploration was completed and it was surveyed. The discoverers decided to name it after their group companion Josep-Manel Victoria.
