Caratteristiche

Località

From the easternmost end of the Campgràs plain, follow the ridge that, heading SE, runs parallel to the Pla de les Basses and descends toward the Fondo de Vallbona. You reach the Avenc de l'Arboç and must continue along the ridge to a small col a little further down, above which a small rounded hill can be seen. You must go around it on the left and, without losing height, gradually turn to the right until reaching the steepest slope, where the pit is located.

It should be noted that at present (2013) the route from the Avenc de l'Arboç to the aforementioned col is difficult due to the density of the vegetation; continuing further on seems an even much more difficult undertaking.

Descrizione

Morfologia

Through an elongated opening (2.5 x 0.8 m) with a small rock bridge, you enter a single shaft, bell-shaped and with 17.5 metres of vertical drop. Its base is about 3 metres wide and consists of a descending ramp about 12 metres long, with a small lateral concavity in the upper part and giving rise to a blind dome about 10 metres high at the lowest point of the floor, which is nevertheless the bottom of the pit.

It is a residual form, suspended many metres above the thalweg and originated by the action of water acting on a joint running NW – SE.

Concrezioni

The lithogenic formations are very abundant, especially the wall flowstone, completely covering all the walls of the pit, although their current state is in an advanced process of decalcification.

Storia

In one of the first attempts to locate the lost Avenc del “Palmito” in the Fondo de Vallbona, three members of the SIE (Ferro, Miñarro and Vizuete) on 12 January 1986 went for a walk along the ravine located below the Bassot de l'Arbre. After a while of fruitless searching they heard a herd of goats moving through the Bassot. They went in search of the shepherd and during the obligatory questioning he pointed out a whole series of known pits, except one; at that point, two torrents further on, none was known. The consequences of the great fire a little more than three years earlier made the route easier, despite the two sumps to be negotiated, and without much difficulty they located the pit which, the following Sunday, 19 January 1986, was explored for the first time by a large group of members of the SIE – CE Àliga.

Since it was three who had gone for a walk who found the pit and that week was the week of the bearded ones (also 3) and the traditional festival of the Tres Tombs, there was no doubt about how to name the new pit.
