Caratteristiche

Località

From the car park at Pla de Querol, follow the road towards the Campgràs and at the first bend leave it and continue in an E direction without losing height through the strange paths of the rascler. Leave the avenc de les Branques on the right and shortly after, cross a hollow. Ascend the other slope; the cavity is on the hillside, between this point and the bottom of Vallbona. There is no nearby landmark.

Storia

At the end of this last month of August (2018), Jordi Sàrries (els ciMs) got in touch with the Espeleoíndex team to tell us that a few days earlier, during an excursion through the Campgràs, already at the head of the Fondo de Vallbona, he had found a pit that, unlike those in the rest of the area, was neither painted, nor had a cairn, and not even any rigging was visible at the entrance. With the coordinates he provided, a few days later two members of the ERE – CEC approached the pit and explored it. Unfortunately it was a small cavity that does not even reach 5 metres in depth. It was necessary to investigate whether it was an unknown pit or a forgotten one. We consulted our friend Lluís Muntan, a good connoisseur of the area, and he replied that he had never seen it. At first we thought it could be the unlocated Avenc de la Farigola (- 6 m.), but from the little data we know about it, it must be further down. Going through the 1961 edition of the Garraf map by Editorial Alpina, we observe that the people of the SES – Puigmal mentioned a pit 4 metres deep on the S side of the Campgràs, quite separate from the cluster of pits in the area, and they call it Avenc dels Totxos, locating it on the map (with the terrifying cartography of that time) with the number 111 and which they must have explored towards the end of the 1950's and which had never been mentioned anywhere again. With all due reservations, we have chosen to recover that name and catalogue this small pit with that designation.
