Storia

In November 1996, members of the AAEET de Valls went to try to find a cavity that in 1957 members of the Centre Excursionista de Sabadell had explored and about which no news has ever been heard since. It is the Avenc del C.E.S., of which a brief note had appeared in the magazine Cordada no. 27 (1957), presenting a sketch that gave it a depth of 70 metres. The data on its location were quite unreliable; it was only known that it had to be relatively near the path that climbs from Cornudella to the Cova Santa.

During their prospecting, they found a small hole that they had to clear in order to explore it. Their surprise was enormous when at the bottom of the pit they found an inscription that reads: C.E.S. - 1957 – 20.4. Therefore it could not be the avenc del C.E.S., nor could it be some other small ones they had explored around the same time and had named Avencs no. 1 and 2 de la Punta (see: Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya. Vol.7,pp:181-183, 1984). The people of Sabadell never left any trace of another cavity, much less one 20 metres deep. Faced with the lack of information, the colleagues from Valls decided to rename it Avenc del Pèl-Roig. Quite a mystery...
