Località

To the SW of the town of Ulldecona rises a hill crowned by the castle. The pit is on the NE slope, about 50 metres from the wall and just below the road by which the castle is reached. Right beside the path that climbs to the castle along its NE slope.

Descrizione

Morfologia

It has two entrances that connect at a first 2-metre drop with the base inclined towards the S. Here a new small shaft of 2 metres opens, leading into a gallery inclined towards the NE, structured in a fissure largely occupied by clastic materials. Practically below the entrance shaft, there is a narrow descending passage that connects with the lower part of a small chamber.

Progressione

Among the clastic materials one can descend until reaching the point of maximum depth at -14 metres.

Storia

The first news we have of an exploration is that carried out by members of the GES – CMB in the spring of 1959 during a campaign in which they explored a good number of cavities in the area, many of which we have never heard of again. At that time the GES people called it Cova del Castell. It is not until the beginning of the 1970s that members of the GE Ulldecona explore it and make the survey that we include.
