Caratteristiche

Località

A few metres above the right slope of the Torrent de la Falconera, SE of the Campdàsens farmhouse.

Perhaps the best route to get there is from the old cement colony of Vallcarca (from 1903 Ciments Fradera, later UNILAND and tomorrow, who knows). At the end of the installations there is a turn-off to the right (signposted 'Campdàsens') which, along a narrow track (GR-92) but more or less suitable for all vehicles, leads us to this magnificent 11th-century farmhouse. From here and towards the E, one must follow a track that goes into a quarry; shortly afterwards the track continues in a S direction, between the quarry and the torrent. One must look for the best point to go in to the right, in the very middle of a very thick undergrowth, in order, with patience, to find the mouth of the pit.

Descrizione

Morfologia

Formed by a single shaft 21 metres deep, with a diameter of 1.5 metres at the start and widening in a SW-NE direction from the middle. The floor, narrow and elongated (1 x 5 m.) remains covered with rubble and earth.

Altri dettagli

In the middle of the shaft one can see the mark of a very old drilled hole. We do not know whether it was made during the works of the attempted use of the waters of la Falconera (late 19th century) or perhaps, later, in some drilling of one of the nearby quarries.

Storia

We do not know exactly when the first exploration of this cavity was made. Borràs (1974) attributes it to N. Font i Sagué, but we have not found any written record that can corroborate this. Font, in his Catàlech (1897), does mention a series of pits that he says had been explored by the miners who worked on the works of la Falconera and among them he cites an Avenc de la Falconera attributing to it 42 metres of depth, but we do not believe it is the cavity that concerns us; it could be the one later known as Avenc de la Riera de la Falconera. Faura himself, in his Recull (1909), stops cataloguing it and assigns the figure of 42 metres to la Falconera itself, as if he wanted to say that it is the Pou de l'Eusebi.

F. Termes includes it in his list of cavities of the Garraf (Speleon, 1952) and cites as bibliographical references different works by Font, Faura and d'Amat, but in none of them is this pit mentioned. Only the reference of the first edition of the map of Editorial Alpina (1949) is certain, in which N. Llopis cites it, we believe, for the first time, although we have no data on when it was explored. It also does not appear in the activities book of the GES – CMB until the year 1972.

We do have news of an exploration made by members of the SES – Puigmal around 1958 and we should even have a survey (which for the moment we cannot find) made possibly by Emili Sabaté.

It seems, however, quite probable that during the works of the project for the conduction of the waters of la Falconera (late 19th century), some of the well-sinkers might have explored it.
