Modern 230-metre adit mine on private property, with a climb of more than 40 metres leading to ancient workings in schists with hematised siderite.
Description
Morphology
This mine opens through a 230-metre-long adit (modern era) that gives access to several working levels. In the main adit, several rockfalls attest to the age of the site and its lack of maintenance. The deposit lies in schists, and it was hematised siderite that was the object of this working.
Hydrology
An embankment in front of the entrance creates a pool of water flowing out of the mine, about thirty centimetres deep. The water escapes to the right of the entrance, into the nearby stream.
Progression
A climb of more than 40 metres allowed access to an upper gallery that indeed bore traces of ancient working. These old workings were intersected by other, more recent workings.
Other details
In the village of Rivèrenert a very large spoil heap is present (near the cemetery). The smelting of the ore extracted from this mine took place on site, at the location of the village.

History
In the archives of the Service des Mines, mention is made of “old Roman workings”. Our action aimed to find these “workings”. The artefacts discovered and identified allow the ancient working to be dated to the first centuries before our era.
