Grotte de la Figuière n°1

Narrow entrance leading into a low, elliptical gallery. The gallery then ends at a small body of water. Beyond an upward squeeze, it is possible to stand upright for a few metres before passing through a severe flat-out crawl that opens into a more spacious gallery about a hundred metres long. This gallery leads to sump 1.

Sump 1 is 90 metres long with its lowest point at -6 m. Beyond it, a gallery continues for 72 metres before ending at impenetrable fissures. At the exit of sump 1, large blocks conceal a small 6-metre pit whose sandy bottom gives access to the second sump.

Sump 2, lowest point -26 m (-33 m), runs through a narrow joint and ends after 410 metres at an impenetrable squeeze, only 5 metres (-12 m) below its starting point (-7 m). The terminus of the dive lies at the same level as the Caramy, at -12 m relative to the entrance at 0.

Sump 2 runs partly through the flooded karst of the water table.

You have to enter this recess to reach an upward squeeze.
