Description

Morphology

Two entrances open beneath a waterfall in the bed of the torrent del Borrut. These give rise to a narrow gallery. After about 15 m, the waters are lost through an impenetrable narrow passage. The initial gallery continues a few metres further, where there is a small chamber. The progression is interrupted by a flowstone, behind which the continuation of the gallery can be seen, although it remains quite narrow.

Hydrology

The waters of the torrent flow through the gallery. After about 15 m, the waters are lost through an impenetrable narrow passage. In 2008, Joan Carles Juderías observes that the waters of the torrent del Borrut disappear beneath a waterfall in a snow drift and that further down the torrent flows dry. On a second visit, with no snow, he observes that beneath the waterfall a sinkhole opens, through which most of the water flowing down the torrent is lost.

Progression

The progression is interrupted by a flowstone, behind which the continuation of the gallery can be seen, although it remains quite narrow.

History

Cavity discovered in 2008 by Joan Carles Juderías during an excursion to the Puigmal. Due to the snow drift, no cavity is observed, but he decides to return later. On a second visit, with no snow, he observes that beneath the waterfall a sinkhole opens. Unfortunately, right at the entrance of the cavity he finds a dead cow and decides to leave the exploration for another day. In 2010 he returns, and with the cow's carcass now gone, he carries out the first exploration. In September 2019 he returns with Josep Guarro to survey the cavity, and they again come across a dead cow and calf at the foot of the waterfall, although the entrance to the cavity is clean and allows them to survey it.
