Characteristics

Location

Located in the village of el Catllar, we will follow along the avinguda de Catalunya to turn off onto the camí de la Font and head towards the recreational area of the Torre d'en Guiu. Once at this point, a track leaves to the left in a NE direction, running parallel to and heading up the Gaià river. Shortly after we will pass beneath the old Reus to Roda de Berà railway line, and a little further on we will pass beneath the high-speed railway line. Continuing on we will find the remains of some constructions; at this point it is necessary to cross the bed of the Gaià river (normally dry). Once this has been crossed, on the hydrographic left bank we find the cavity.

Description

Morphology

It is a rock shelter 33 metres wide, with some small galleries that remain blocked by sandy earth. Counting the back of the shelter plus the sum of all the small galleries that branch off from it, they total about fifty metres of passage.

Other details

Near this rock shelter and on the same bank of the Gaià river is the abric de la Cativera; it is a small rock shelter where archaeological remains have been found, this one measures 3 metres deep.

History

Known since time immemorial. The GE Badalona explores and surveys them in January 1980.

It is very likely that the Bauma Llarga, as well as the Bauma de Mas Terrers, cited by Joan Virella in Miscel·lània Penedesenca, are none other than the cova Manena itself.
