Characteristics

Location

On the T-331 road from Ulldecona to Amposta, at Km 2.79 we will turn right onto the paved track of the lligallo dels Plans until we reach the end, we will continue left along the track of the Basses del Montsià to the mas del Comú, and where the GR-92 passes, we will follow the track for 1.83 Km, at this point we will turn right and 100 metres further on we will reach the enabled parking area, the whole track is in good condition. From the parking area we will follow the path that climbs to the Torreta del Montsià for 1.43 Km. On reaching a ravine that crosses the path we will find a cairn on the right, the ravine must be ascended for a few metres and then immediately leave it on the right by climbing a steep scree slope, on the upper part of which we will find cairns that in about 50 m will lead us to the cave, which is quite hidden by the vegetation.

Description

Morphology

The original entrance must have been larger, but it appears half filled by earth falls from the upper part of the crag; even so, it gives access to a long gallery, 18 m long and about 8 m wide. In the middle of the gallery, on the left side, we find the access to a crawlway parallel to the main gallery about 7 m long that ends in a very narrow passage.

Speleothems

On the ceiling of the main gallery there are some small active stalactites that have a curious lateral displacement, although no air current is observed.

History

Unpublished cavity discovered by David Tomàs in the winter of 2021-22 thanks to the clearing of vegetation caused by the rainstorm of September 2021.

In February 2024 Agustí Barceló and Francesc Rubinat visited the cavity to collect data and survey the cavity.
