Description
Morphology
Through a medium-sized entrance one enters a gallery formed by the conjunction of three aligned chambers. At the back of the third chamber and through a very narrow crawlway in the shape of a window, one can access a new chamber located slightly below the level of the entrance gallery. In a corner of this one and through an even narrower passage, which was cleared in 2010, one can access three more chambers; two of them with a cylindrical floor plan and in the shape of a collecting funnel and another with many roots of the surface trees that are covered with lime.
History
Cavity known since olden times and which seems to have been the dwelling of the old woodcutters who worked in the area many years ago, since in the first stretch of the cavity remains of a straw loft and other objects are found. It also seems to be a voluntary cemetery of some Hispanic goats, being able to observe some skeletons of this animal in a resting position.
The first speleological reference that we have is from the visit of the members of the SIRE UEC Tortosa (later Espeleo Club Tortosa) on 9 September 1982, during which they made a survey that had remained unpublished until now. The cavity was practically forgotten until it was rediscovered on 18 September 2010 by members of the Speleology and Canyons Section of the UEC Tortosa.
Given the unawareness of the old exploration, they decide to rename it as Cova de la Pallissa del Polit and furthermore they carry out a hard clearing that allows them to discover three unpublished chambers, while making a sketch of the whole cavity.
In 2018 members of the Speleology and Canyons Section of the UEC de Tortosa carry out a new survey.
