Location

Following the path that leads from the UEC Tortosa refuge to Cova Balaguer, 26 metres before reaching it and a few metres to the right of the path, among the box trees, the cavity is found.

Description

Morphology

A few metres from the entrance we find a small hole that gives rise to a crawlway leading to a small chamber; after a step, a short gallery takes us to the mouth of a small shaft, at the bottom of which, by means of a short traverse, a short ascending section is reached that leads to an upper chamber. Returning to the base of the previous small shaft, one continues vertically, encountering a narrow passage at 9 metres of descent and quickly reaching the bottom of the cavity, at 25 metres of depth.

Hydrology

The bottom of the cavity is covered by a pool of water, at 25 metres of depth.

Progression

No equipment is needed to descend the small shaft.

History

Discovered and explored by members of the SES of the Club Esquí Puigmal (Barcelona) in 1962 during one of the many campaigns they carried out at that time in the Port massif.
