Susqueda • Selva 107m 6m

Cave with 107 metres of passage at the foot of the cliff of the sanctuary of the Mare de Deu del Far (Susqueda).

Characteristics

Location

At the foot of the cliff of the sanctuary of the Mare de Deu del Far (Susqueda). It is reached by driving along the C-153 road to the coll de Condreu, where the turn-off towards the sanctuary of the Mare de Deu del Far is taken. On arriving at the ermita de Santa Anna, instead of going down by the grau de Santa Anna, located just behind the ermita, continue along the road for 125 metres, where on the left there is a path marked as PR. Go down this grau to the end, where the path continues in a S direction in a gentle descent until reaching a point where it makes a small zig-zag and on the left there is a rock. Just past this point, from the right of the path a small trail branches off which at some point becomes hard to follow due to the vegetation, but which leads to the cave, located at the foot of the cliff and practically directly below the antennas on the upper part of the cliff.

Description

Morphology

The entrance is 1.50x1 metre and gives access to a single meandering gallery with a general NW direction. Once the whole meander section has been passed and standing at the base of the gallery, it turns towards the NE, then turns again towards the NW 12 metres further on.

Hydrology

From the point where the gallery turns again towards the NW, accumulations of mud are found, and at certain times of the year this final section of the cave appears flooded.

History

The first exploration of which we have record is that carried out by the Grup d'Amics de l'Espeleologia Científica, of Manlleu, who explored and surveyed it on 26 October 1972, naming it cova nº 1 del Stop. In the same area they explored 3 other cavities, and an article about it was published that same year, in a local bulletin of Manlleu.

In 1976 it was explored and surveyed again by the Grup Espeleològic de Mollet, who went on to name it with what we consider the most appropriate name of cova del Far.

Bio
