Characteristics

Location

Starting from the Font de Dalt car park (within the village of Palau-saverdera), we will head for the path that climbs to the hermitage of Sant Onofre (itinerary no. 8 of the Cap de Creus Natural Park), which we will follow for approximately 1 km, until, shortly before crossing the rec de Sant Onofre, we find a turn-off on our right (signposted) that leads to the cave. From here the path gains height (a little more than 200 metres) and after about 600 metres we will reach the cave.

The access path is very well signposted. In 2013 the town council of Palau-saverdera signposted and cleared the path. The first part runs along the path that leads to the hermitage of Sant Onofre and is very clear and without any chance of getting lost, but once we leave this path the itinerary is very indistinct, gains height rapidly and we can follow it thanks to the fact that it has recently been cleared, so in the future it will be quite difficult to follow if it is not maintained.

Description

Morphology

The cavity has 3 access entrances. The path we have followed to reach it leaves us at entrance no. 1, about 3 metres wide and 1.4 metres high, with the right-hand part occupied by blocks. A gallery follows that ends at 7 metres. Just after entering we find on the right a low-roofed gallery that leads us to the second entrance, 3 metres wide and 1.8 metres high, and, if we continue straight on, we will reach the third entrance, very narrow and through which we cannot get out because the outside is completely full of brambles.

Other details

It is an artificial excavation, possibly in search of mineral, although this aspect cannot be confirmed.

History

Known since remote times. Unpublished speleologically until members of the EC Gràcia and the GE Badalona visited it on 6 December 2014 and carried out the cataloguing work.
