Characteristics

Location

West-facing and almost opposite km. 9 of the C-1413B road from Centelles to Sant Feliu de Codines.

A few metres before km. 9 a track leads off to the collet del Marçó, passing the farmhouses of Can Ferrer and Can Deixafer. Shortly after leaving these houses on the right, a path branches off to the left from the track, doubling back and, higher up, running parallel to the road, almost at the foot of the cliff; a small trail brings us to this cliff, where the cavity hangs.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, of regular dimensions (7 x 3 m.), hangs 5 metres above the wall. It consists of a single gallery 18 metres long whose dimensions diminish as one advances, until reaching a small final conduit 7 metres long that remains filled with sediments.

Hydrology

It appears to be an ancient spring, completely fossilised, established in some very sandy sandstone strata from the Eocene.

History

The first reference we know of is the result of a visit by the GIE – CE de Gràcia in 1967. It seems that during this visit archaeological surveys were carried out in the cave and in two other nearby cavities that we do not know (Balmes de l'Aliguer and Cova de la Figuera), where fragments of Neolithic pottery and knapped flint were found.
