Morphology

The entrance opens in a cliff 9 metres from the base. Inside there is an ascending step of 2 metres, easily climbable among blocks, which allows access to a gallery 10 metres long, with the floor completely covered in sand. The width of the gallery never exceeds 2 metres; at the end one reaches a wider chamber with a higher ceiling.

History

Also known as cova de la Vall and as cova de la Moneda, the latter due to the discovery inside the cave of plates and coins made by counterfeiters during the reign of Isabel II (1833-1868). Archaeological remains belonging to the late Neolithic-Chalcolithic have also been found. The cave was rediscovered during the second half of the 1960s by the "Amics de la cova dels muntanyencs", a group that was the precursor of the future Centre Excursionista de Vallirana.
