Description
Morphology
At the bottom of the entrance doline, a first 7-metre step leads to an inclined plane cluttered with blocks and branches. A fine pit 20 metres deep and about 5 metres in diameter, well eroded, follows; its bottom is obstructed by blocks and gravel. A squeeze allows access to the base of a parallel pit, of identical dimensions and equally obstructed. At the level of the first step, a small climb gave access to another parallel pit 5 metres deep, also obstructed, then further on in the joint, a new departure joins the 20-metre pit. There is little hope of finding a continuation to this cavity, but the visit is well worth the detour!
Other details
The cavity develops in Devonian marbleized limestones.

History
The cavity owes its name to the almost permanent snowfield (well, less and less so...) found at the bottom of the first step, which was exploited as a natural icehouse by the café owners of Axat.
