Small rock shelter with abundant formations in Olius, located beside the font de l'Hostal de les Forques.

Characteristics

Location

It is located at the end of the fields below the house of l'Hostal de les Forques, right beside the spring. To reach it, take the forest track that leaves the house and descends through the middle of the woods in an easterly direction; after about one hundred metres, follow another forest track to the left and soon afterwards, on the left, there is a narrow path that will lead us to the spring; a few metres away is the gully and above it the small rock shelter, carpeted with the same vegetation as the gully, which makes it go unnoticed.

The rock shelter lies astride the municipalities of Olius and Lladurs, since the gully of l'Hostal de les Forques forms the municipal boundary.

Description

Morphology

It is a small rock shelter with a base of about 4X10 metres, an average height of 1.20 metres, a mouth width of 12 metres and a depth of 4 metres. It is in the same gully, and little by little it is being covered by the sediments brought by the torrent during heavy rains. The terrain is sandstone.

Speleothems

The ceiling of the rock shelter is full of small stalactites that do not exceed 30 cm but that carpet almost all of it and give it an indisputable beauty. It is also worth noting that most of these stalactites are inclined towards the exterior, defying the law of gravity.

History

The only known data come from the visit and survey carried out by Salvador Codina (CE Solsonès) on 7-12-2016.
