A pit of more than 100 metres, the closest to the Catalan coast, in Sitges. Discovered in December 2016 by GES-Garraf and made known in 2018.

Characteristics

Location

On the left-hand side of the Fondo de les Maleses, about 280 metres down from the track along the bed of the fondo. About 200 metres downstream is the west mouth of the Túnel del Castellot of the C-32 motorway (Túnels del Garraf).

Access can be gained via the track that leads from Vallcarca to Campdàsens; shortly before reaching Ca l'Amell is the junction with the Fondo de les Maleses.

GES-Garraf colleagues ask that vehicles not be parked in the immediate vicinity of Cal l'Amell to avoid causing a nuisance.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, which at the time had to be cleared, as well as the pas Orpella located a little further down, gives way to a pit one metre wide; this widens as it descends until reaching 6 metres in width. At -30 metres there is a ledge on one side that gives access to the sala Fidel and to some narrow pits that end up connecting with the final part of the pou J.L. Puerta, which is the pit we descend from the junction to the sala Fidel.

At the base of the pit at -63 metres we find a narrow passage that had to be cleared; a step gives access to a low-roofed ledge from which the GESG de -38 metres pit is reached; this quickly widens, acquiring considerable dimensions that are maintained almost to the base, where it slightly widens its section.

At -102 metres we find a short gallery that leads to the head of a cul-de-sac. On the other side of this blind pit a very muddy, low ramp is reached; this, after a small step, arrives at a small funnel of 0.7X0.2 metres that acts as a swallow hole, this being the deepest point of the cavity at -110 metres.

The air here is often stale.

History

The cavity was discovered in December 2016 by members of GES-Garraf (Sitges); it was a small hole 25 centimetres in diameter through which a slight draught of air passed. After various clearances along the cavity, finally in 2018, although the exploration tasks have not been completed, they make it known.
