Characteristics

Location

From the esplanade of la Falconera, shortly before reaching km. 16 of the road from Terrassa to Mura and on its left, take the path that descends through the woods towards the torrent del Roure del Parrac. Shortly after starting this path and on a flat stretch, another path branches off to the right, climbing to the nearby Collet de la Sabatera and continuing towards the Turó de la Roureda. Once past the collet, find a small path that in a N direction runs along the left slope of the Sot de la Foréstega or Canal de la Sabatera, below the eastern cliffs of the Turó de la Roureda. This trail, in a little less than 200 metres, leads us to the entrance of the pit.

Description

Morphology

Through an entrance of regular dimensions (approx. 3 x 2 m.) one enters a small shaft 5 metres deep, at the base of which begins a gallery about 13 metres long that, on a steep ramp, leads into a wide and beautiful chamber. At the end of this chamber one can see the entrance of a slightly elevated gallery protected by a series of magnificent gours. At its start the gallery has a rounded section with a low ceiling, then a few metres further on gains height for a few metres and immediately afterwards noticeably decreases in dimensions. Once the narrows are passed, one emerges into a wider passage, slightly ascending, where some parietal flowstone brings the progression to an end.

Speleothems

The entrance of a slightly elevated gallery is protected by a series of magnificent gours (very often full of water and for which the greatest respect is asked of visitors).

Hydrology

In times of heavy rain the cavity can enter a certain hydrological activity and the gallery is traversed by a small watercourse, which drains through a small sinkhole in the main chamber, below the gours.

Progression

Through an entrance of regular dimensions (approx. 3 x 2 m.) one enters a small shaft 5 metres deep, at the base of which begins a gallery about 13 metres long that, on a steep ramp, leads into a wide and beautiful chamber. Once the narrows are passed, one emerges into a wider passage, slightly ascending, where some parietal flowstone brings the progression to an end.

History

Very possibly the discovery and first exploration of the cavity took place in December 1955, as recorded in the activities book of the GES del CMB, thinking that the authors of this exploration would have been members of its delegation in Terrassa (years later Club Muntanyenc de Terrassa).

We know of another visit in 1964 by two members of the Centre Excursionista de Terrassa, Enric Prat and Joan Estella, who were two of the founders a few years later of the SIS.
