Description
Morphology
The 11 x 6 metre entrance is divided by a rock bridge. The first pit is 22 metres deep; at this point there is a large ledge, leaving an opening of less than 3 metres through which the pit continues for some 50 metres. To the south it extends some 15 metres further by means of various chimneys that have been connected (Via ERE). The floor at -72 metres is of dimensions similar to the entrance mouth. To the east we find a parallel chimney some 20 metres high. To the north and after climbing some 10 metres we find a series of small pits that allow us to reach the point of maximum depth, -84 metres (Via GIE); parallel to this we find another pit.
History
This cavity was first explored by Mossèn Norbert Font i Sagué in 1897, considered to be the first sporting descent of modern Speleology in Catalonia.
On 24 August 1969 a team from the ERE-CEC, while doing some flanking in the middle of the pit, managed to access a lateral route formed by various chimneys (Via ERE). Some years later, on 16 June 1974, a team formed by a member of the GIE and one of the ERE decided to return to finish the survey begun five years earlier; in this exploration and some 10 metres above the base of the pit, on the N wall, they located a new lateral route (Via GIE) which, through a fairly narrow passage, allows a new maximum depth point to be reached (- 84).
One must wait until 29 August 1987 when members of the SIES – L'Avenç d'Esplugues de Llobregat, after a small clearance at the start of the GIE route, are able to explore a new small pit parallel to this route.
