Cova dels àngels

The cova dels Àngels is located by the barranc de la Fou, in la Sénia (Montsià).

From the pantà d'Ulldecona, once past the bridge, we turn right and go up the la Fou track to the recreational area of the barranc, at about 8.5 Km. At the picnic area we can leave the car.

We take the track we came on again, in the opposite direction, and retrace our steps about 500 metres to a right-hand bend, where we see a forest hut and a path entrance on the left of the track. We take the path entrance and after stepping over a chain we go down an old track to the bed of the barranc. We cross it and continue along the track on the opposite bank, climbing in zigzags on a gentle slope to the end of it, where we find a forest chalet.

Behind the house a path starts that goes up to some water tanks supplying the chalet. We follow to the right of the tanks along a path where a pipe runs that feeds the tanks and that rises precisely at the place we want to visit. After a short climb, the path levels off at about 650 metres of altitude and skirts, in a northerly direction, the reddish cliffs of the Mallada de Valldabella on our right. On the left runs the barranc de la Fou, the Moleta de l'Àliga, and further beyond, the Malladeta and the coll de la cova Roja poke out. The path leads us to a corner, which, going uphill, leaves us at the edge of an old basin, now empty, that was fed by the spring. Going round to the left of the tosca wall facing us, full of ferns and where water trickles down everywhere, we reach the entrance of the cova dels Àngels.
