Pit near the Desao refuge, south of the Pagomari path, with an entrance shaft of 35 m, meanders, boulder-filled chambers and an underground river that ends in a sump.
Descrizione
Morfologia
The cavity opens with a wide 35 m shaft. At its base, via a ramp, the entrance to the meander is taken, along which the pit continues; this meander is small in size, with a width normally of 0.5 m and variable height. After the narrow sections, a wide chamber is reached in which the cavity presents larger proportions and which contains a large quantity of fallen blocks. Upstream there are galleries of good proportions and four bifurcations, with the floor covered in blocks; the two most important are constantly traversed by a stream and are always ascending. Towards the SW one descends by a fairly steep ramp and, after a gallery, a new chamber of smaller dimensions is reached. Further on there are new chambers full of debris and with low ceilings, and another chamber where the river reappears.
Idrologia
In the large chamber, contact is made with a watercourse in the NE part; this inflow disappears among blocks in its descending part. The two most important galleries, upstream, are constantly traversed by a stream. The cavity is interesting and its relationship with the underground river of Ormazarreta was verified by dye tracing. Following the river, one reaches the sump where the cavity ends.
Progressione
Once at the base of the entrance shaft, via a ramp the entrance to the meander is taken. This presents several drops: first one of 5 m; after a small rope drop, a new 10 m shaft is reached, behind which, after a short traverse, a wide chamber is reached after having passed the 180 m of narrow sections. From the large chamber towards the SW one descends by a fairly steep ramp and, after a gallery, a new chamber of smaller dimensions is reached where there is a 23 m shaft that gives onto galleries where there is a water inflow. Following the gallery, a new 5 m drop is reached where, after a small climb, there are new chambers full of debris and with low ceilings. Later, a new 5 m drop leaves one in another chamber where the river reappears.
Storia
Explored by I.P.V. in 1961 as far as the chamber into which the meanders flow, at 100 m depth, and later during the Aralar days in 1979 by G.E.E., G.E.A. and G.E.S., and on subsequent trips by Aranzadi and Satorrak, which completed the survey.
