Scialet de l'Antre des Damnés

L'Antre des Damnés is a set of underground galleries forming a vast karst network. The large entrance shafts, the puits Goudurix (205 metres) and the puits de l'Indomptable (65 metres), were excavated along a fault. The grandiose dimensions of the galleries found at the bottom of the entrance shafts, including the galerie Titan, are due to the scouring of the Hauterivian marls and the collapse of the Urgonian roof.

The excavation of the cavities dates from the Quaternary glaciations, but certain galleries of nearby cavities, such as the galerie des Merdeilles at the Clos de la Fure, date from before the Pliocene. The water encountered in the various cavities resurges at the exsurgence of the Goule Blanche, at 832 metres altitude, in the gorges de la Bourne.

This vast karst network is the third-deepest cavity in the Vercors massif and in the Isère department.
