Descrizione

Morfologia

Located in a karst area and at the edge of a small lapiaz, the shaft opens as a funnel-shaped doline 8x5 m, which narrows to measurements of 3x2. Very soon, after 5 m of descent, the shaft opens into a large bell-shaped chamber that forms the Satorrak chamber; for this reason, from the outside the pit opens as a dark black shaft. Once the 31 m vertical section has been descended, one reaches one of the largest-volume chambers in Aralar. This chamber is formed by the conjunction of two very fossil galleries, almost perpendicular and following N-S and E-W fractures, which through corrosion and roof collapse have created a vast chamber more than 30 m high and 80 x 60 m in surface area. Large metric blocks pile up especially in the western sector of the chamber, forming a great scree slope that climbs up to the bear gallery, located in the highest part of the chamber.

Concrezioni

Through a narrow passage almost obstructed by the formations, one can reach a small chamber of delicate beauty, where a carpet of microgours has formed on the floor covered by flowstone. In the Tartalo gallery, located at the NE end of the Satorrak chamber and perhaps the most spectacular part of the cave, water seepages that filter through the fissures have covered everything with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites; its great beauty competes in Aralar with few cavities such as Mentrokillo zuloa.

Progressione

From the outside, the black shaft is descended; after 5 m of descent the large bell-shaped chamber that forms the Satorrak chamber opens up, and once the 31 m vertical section has been descended one reaches the chamber. The great scree slope of the western sector climbs up to the bear gallery, and through a narrow passage almost obstructed by the formations one reaches a small chamber. The Tartalo gallery is located at the NE end of the Satorrak chamber.

Altri dettagli

Sunlight penetrating like a skylight illuminates the chamber with ghostly shapes accentuated by the mist that enters from outside; once the 31 m vertical section has been descended we find ourselves in a place of impressive beauty.
