Altadill, in Geografía del País Vasco Navarro, describes it as having a very complex layout, with a narrow entrance, considerable development and various branches that connect with one another. After the fork to the North is the Salón de Recepciones, 30 meters long by 23 meters wide.
Concrezioni
It contains stalactites and stalagmites. The Salón de Recepciones has interesting formations; the Sala de los Tres Reyes has large stalagmites and the Sala de las Columnas is also of great beauty.
Idrologia
A stream crosses the cave and runs through both the Sala de los Tres Reyes and the Sala de las Columnas.
Progressione
From the entrance, after the fork to the North, one reaches the Salón de Recepciones; the Sala de los Tres Reyes and the Sala de las Columnas, both traversed by a stream, are part of the route.
Altri dettagli
The Cuevas de Ikaburu, also known as the Cuevas de Urdax, were visited by the I.P.V. group in 1952 and 1962, confirming that it is a cave that was exploited for tourism. In more recent history it was a place of refuge for guerrillas and smugglers.
Storia
They were discovered in 1808 by a shepherd from the Urdax area, but the studies carried out date their origin much earlier, about 14,000 years B.C., and it is believed that in Prehistory, 6,000 years ago, they may have been inhabited by man. The Iturralde group visited them in 1952 and 1962. In archaeology, ceramic remains have been found.
