Grotte de Lulac

The cave begins with a very narrow entrance (collapse). This passage is a few metres long and overlooks a scree slope leading into a small gallery, relatively spacious since it is 3 metres wide by 4 high. This gallery, keeping roughly the same proportions, is 86 metres long. On the right and left walls, a few minor crawls can be seen. The squeeze is about thirty metres long with several narrowings. The cauliflower meander is currently about thirty metres long. It is of course a modest cavity but one that had, until then, been totally ignored. Total surveyed development: 166 m.

In places, skeins of roots hang from the vault as well as a few often massive concretions. It is in the squeeze that the concretion is most remarkable (fistulas).

Relative to the entrance and in the direction of progression, one notes: at 20 m, a small pit about 4 m deep and obstructed; 10 metres further on, a narrow vertical conduit leads into a short gallery, parallel to the main one with a low point at -8 m; 20 m from there, on the right, there is a new narrow pit, especially at the start (désobstruction) but the deepest (-16 m); a few metres further on there is a collapse with a low point at -4 m. This is followed by a clayey climb and this is the squeeze. Back at the entrance of the squeeze, on the right, without descending, a ledge allows one to enter the cauliflower meander.

The grotte de Lulac opens in an extremely faulted zone that can be situated in the karstified limestones of the middle upper Jurassic Causses (Aalenian to lower Kimmeridgian).
