Grotte de la Combe de Rostassac

The entrance porch of the Grotte de la Combe de Rostassac is fairly large. The vein, an old water passage, has a tunnel shape for a few metres. a narrow, horizontal passage follows it. a fault presents at its bottom an old 3 m waterfall. a small tunnel leads to a small chamber where there is a triple obstructed crawlway.

The vein corresponds to an old water passage. An old white waterfall is traversed by a few litres of water per day. a dig was attempted following the course of the old stream, but the passage becomes too narrow.

You have to descend into the tunnel-shaped vein for a few metres to reach a narrow, horizontal passage. Two possibilities then present themselves. The first consists of continuing the tunnel straight ahead in the logical direction and arriving at an old white waterfall. The second consists of continuing to descend beneath the entrance tunnel (le tunnel) in the opposite direction to the approach: the passage is very narrow and you have to squeeze under the large fallen stone that holds back a mass of earth and pebbles. You then arrive at a fault at the bottom of which an old waterfall descends for 3 m; you pass through a small tunnel that leads into a small chamber where there is a triple obstructed crawlway. The descent to the bottom of the main crawlway yields nothing, as it is blocked by earth; the ascent of this crawlway is difficult, with the risk of getting stuck.
