Descrizione

Morfologia

The entrance, above the baume of the same name, is a fine porch of 4 m x 5 m on a terrace that is difficult to find. a spacious gallery (6 m x 4 m) 170 metres long, known to the villagers, cut in its middle by a crawlway, descends to the NNW then to the WSW. In the middle of the route, a 15-metre shaft drops into a lower chamber. This chamber marks the lowest point of the cave (-21). The gallery as a whole remains parallel to the slope, representing a simple “loop” surviving from an ancient vanished conduit. The cave connects with the Trou souffleur and with l'Oreille by a shaft of about ten metres.

Idrologia

The CLPA carried out a dye trace on 1-5-69 (500 g of fluorescein) in the lower chamber; it emerged 80 hours later at the Garrel, that is 800 metres away and 350 metres lower (10 m/h).

Progressione

In 1949 (20-4, 22-5 and 28-8 of that year), the SCM dug out the bottom, opening a spacious gallery of 100 metres.

Storia

Hubert Borg places there the legend of Jean de l'Ours (a young man of Herculean strength raised in the cavern where his mother had been sequestered by a bear): this fact is not attested by local tradition.

Note biospeleologiche

Reindeer bones have been reported in the lower chamber (Laurès 1954).
