Morfologia
The pit opens onto a fault, through a half-funnel with wooded slopes, steepened to the vertical on the south side. In the narrowed part (-20), the pit is 5 metres in diameter. It then plunges vertically for 25 metres along the north wall, while the south wall, which corresponds to a fault mirror, opens out widely towards the bottom. The base of the cavity forms a chamber 15 metres in diameter.

The cavity is so named because of the « clapier », or pile of stones, located at the boundary of the communes of Nans, Rougiers, Signes and Plan d'Aups, near which it lies.
