Descrizione

Morfologia

A passage about 3 metres long and a small step lead to a single chamber, with a nearly quadrangular floor plan about 3 metres long and about 2 high. The cave is nothing more than a void delimited by the rock and the superposition of some large conglomerate blocks.

Storia

Until 1938 the cave was filled with sediments, but that year the owners of the estate decided to start removing earth to make an air-raid shelter. At that time they already found bones, but it was not until 10 years later that, on the initiative of two teachers from the village and a son of the owner, they again removed earth and, seeing the material that came out, they notified the Archaeological Museum. On 7 November 1948 the first excavations began, directed by Salvador Vilaseca, and they continued until 1949.

The archaeological remains found range from the Chalcolithic to the Bronze Age, with three types of use having been detected; first as a flint workshop, later as a dwelling and finally as a burial place.
