Descrizione
Morfologia
It is a cavity formed by a large block of tufa rock that has tilted and come to rest against a wall of limestone.
The upper entrance presents itself as a pit. In fact, the cavity is almost more pit than cave. It gives way to a 7 m pit, not entirely vertical. At its base we can walk about 7 m before exiting through the lower entrance. In this section, we have the limestone bedrock on the left and the tufa rock block on the right, in which we can observe the concretions and small caverns characteristic of this lithology.
The upper entrance is of good dimensions, with an upper lip that is 4 metres above the lower lip and elevation “0” of the cavity.
Concrezioni
In the tufa rock block we can observe the concretions and small caverns characteristic of this lithology.
Idrologia
The torrent passes right next to the upper entrance, so that in low water the water passes by, but in floods the water enters through the entrance and runs through the whole cavity.
Progressione
The easiest route is the one leading to the upper entrance, in the form of a pit. The upper entrance gives way to a 7 m pit, not entirely vertical. At its base we can walk about 7 m before exiting through the lower entrance. On the outside one cannot go from one entrance to the other without using ropes.
Storia
In an extensive piece published in the Butlletí de l'Associació d'Excursions Catalana in 1885, Francesc Maspons recounts an excursion to Montmany-Puiggraciós on 22 July 1883. The aim was to visit a cave they had heard of and which had been a refuge during the Carlist wars. With the help of the local people, they located and explored it, making an extensive description of the cavity, which was known as the Casa Falsa.
With this reference, Puig y Larraz includes it in his Cavernas y simas de España (1896). The following year, N. Font i Sagué also includes it in his Catàlech (1897), and M. Faura i Sans does the same in his Recull (1909).
Despite various search attempts, the cave has never been found again, and everything suggests that for unknown reasons it seems to have disappeared. Around the middle of the 1970s, while Joan Pallarès-Personat was searching for the enigmatic Casa Falsa, he came across this other cavity and decided to name it Cova Falsa de la Casa Falsa. With a very brief description it is included in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya. Vol. 6 (1980).
At the end of August 2020, members of the Espeleo Club Muntanyenc Barcelonès and the Grup d'Espeleologia de Badalona, in a new failed attempt to find the Casa Falsa, located the one described by Pallarès and carried out the corresponding cataloguing work.
