Caratteristiche

Località

From Mont-ral we will follow the camí de la Foradada, which passes through the Serrat de l'Avenc. Once we have passed the avenc de l'Os and, further on, the turn-off to the avenc del Teix, we will find a path on the right (ETRS89 X:339688; Y:4572438). We will follow this path for 250 metres, where on the left of the path we will find a depression in the terrain, inside which and right at the foot of the cliff there is the avenc de la Pipa. We will continue along the path and soon find a landslide passage where there are some planks with a handrail rope that make the passage easier; a few metres further on we reach the junction of the path that comes up from the Teix mil·lenari; we will continue to the left; a few metres on we find a new junction; we will again continue to the left on a steep climb; a few metres on we find a turn-off to the left that in a few metres takes us to the cova dels Tions. If we continue up the previous path, we would soon come out onto the camí de la cova de la Moneda, so this is another option for reaching it without going through the landslide passage.

Descrizione

Morfologia

It is a small rock shelter that on the SW side has a hole in the roof opening to the outside, while on the NE side, 1 metre above the floor, there is a small stepped conduit 4 metres long.

Storia

This small cavity has been known to hikers for quite some time; some took up the habit, once the Christmas festivities were over, of leaving the Tió inside, and from this anecdote comes the name by which the cave is known.
