Caratteristiche

Località

From Mont-ral we will follow the camí de la Foradada, which passes through the Serrat de l'Avenc. Then we must leave the path that heads to the upper plans dels Motllats and to the cova de la Moneda, and continue to the left in the direction of la Foradada; shortly before reaching it, on the right we find a small cliff face that extends as far as la Foradada, an area long known as comellar de la font del Moro. We will leave the path and approach the base of the cliff, following it in the direction of la Foradada. We will soon find the Font del Moro, located in a small hollow 1.70 metres above the ground, with a small pool of water inside; from the spring we will continue about twenty metres in the direction of la Foradada and find the entrance of the cova dels Moros.

Descrizione

Morfologia

Entrance 3.31x2.94 metres that leads to a gallery with a slight rise, 4.90 metres long. At the end of this, a passage opens about one metre wide by one metre high, encountering at a couple of points a dome 3 metres high and another 5 metres high; from there the small gallery continues descending until it becomes impassable, although an obstruction removal is possible.

Idrologia

The Font del Moro is located in a small hollow 1.70 metres above the ground, with a small pool of water inside. This spring is 20 metres from the cave and is already documented in 1862.

Progressione

The route is 13.68 metres with a height difference of 2 m (-0.50/+1.50).

Storia

A cavity long known as cova dels Moros, later also called cova de la Mel, presumably because at the upper part of the entrance bees periodically form honeycomb there. It is also called cova de la Foradada because of its proximity to la Foradada gran.

The cave is located in the hollow known as Comellar de la Font del Moro. We do not understand why the ICGC places the spring at the Pla de la Meuca, and moreover someone has painted the name of the font del Moro on a rock in the middle of the path on this plain next to a spring, which very probably is actually the Font de Nabàs.
