Caratteristiche

Località

At the NE end of the Mola de Catí. Going up the Mascar track to Mola de Catí, shortly before reaching the plateau and beside the ruins of Xocolato, from the last “revolt de paella” a track branches off to the right (pista de Xocolato according to the ICC) which must be followed almost to its end. Shortly before that, on the last bend, a path branches off to the right in a SE direction and with a slight ascent which we must follow for about 150 m. From here it is necessary to climb to the left and between two small elevations the cave is found.

Descrizione

Morfologia

A triangular-section entrance a little more than one metre high that gives way to a single gallery about 20 m long by 8 m wide and a maximum height of 3 m at its back.

Concrezioni

Different parietal flowstones are observed at some points of the cavity.

Altri dettagli

Shortly after entering, the remains of a stone wall are found, possibly built to pen livestock, and inside there is another smaller one perhaps used as a seat beside a fire. There are also the remains of some water jars that could have served to collect water.

Storia

Cavity known for a long time by the shepherds of the area, but which had gone unnoticed by speleologists. Located around 2012 during a prospection by Iván Gasparín (la Ràpita) and visited again in March 2021 by members of the CE Dinàmics. Given the uncertainty as to whether the cave was known by any specific name, it was decided to name it with the name by which the family of the discoverer in la Ràpita is known: els Gallo.
