Descrizione
Morfologia
The cova del Duc has a built entrance mouth three metres high by two wide. It consists of a single gallery about ten metres long which, as the ceiling lowers, ends in a back filled with sediments that looked as if they had been disturbed. Five metres from the mouth there is a notable artificial bank, built with small stones. The cavity ends at 11 metres, becoming impassable. Only a hole in the ceiling allows us, with difficulty, to stand up and see a small jumble of blocks and a small slightly decorated gallery.
Concrezioni
A small slightly decorated gallery.
Progressione
You have to climb about two metres to enter the cova del Duc. A buckthorn will help us in the task, although with our friend Quim Solbas we have collected some fragments of wall scattered around to try to make a bit of a ladder.
Altri dettagli
In a hole in the left wall and in another near the entrance there were nests of some species of bird that had carried moss there to make its bed.
Storia
The cave initially took the name Ruïnes because it was the closest to the remains of the antiquot that, certainly, were used at the same time as the cavity. Later, Miquel Garcia told us that this cavity had two plaques made with metal welding on which one read “cova del Duc” and this is the name we have finally wanted to give it. The cave also shows the remains of a wall at the entrance, and a wall inside. It is also very likely that a whole series of well-shaped stone blocks found fallen outside the entrance mouth served as an access ladder to the cave. Both outside and inside the cave there are remains of torches.
